I don't understand some gay people sometimes.

liveamongthestars:

How is, ‘I didn’t know you were gay until you told me’, in anyway a compliment? Why does hearing that make you happy? Does being seen as ‘gay’ by other (straight) people irritate you? What makes you feel the need to distance yourself with your own sexuality? How can you, a…

There are enough people on the outside of the gay community stereotyping us for people on the inside to need to perpetuate them too. Learn, accept, don’t judge and certainly don’t act like the people suppressing us. This was a personal rant about someone i know, and i know the thoughts you’re describing weren’t going through their head. They are literally irritated when people think they’re gay without conformation. Priding yourself in not adhering to a stereotype is douchey because it makes out like the people who have similar qualities to the stereotype, just them being themselves, are undesirable and something said person doesn’t want to be associated with.

I don’t understand some gay people sometimes.

How is, ‘I didn’t know you were gay until you told me’, in anyway a compliment? Why does hearing that make you happy? Does being seen as ‘gay’ by other (straight) people irritate you? What makes you feel the need to distance yourself with your own sexuality? How can you, a gay person, perpetuate the stereotypes you hate? You are gay. Stop being so ignorant and behaving like the people we are fighting against.
